Lemonwood is on the Midlands Meander www.midlandsmeander.co.za which is a haven for wonderful arts and crafts of all types. Many international artists work and exhibit in the area. Happily our immediate neighbours are some of the best on the Meander and in the country (see below for more details). More South Africans visit The Meander than any other tourist route in this country. There is fishing and riding available locally as well as golf courses, the ‘extreme sport’ of the Karkloof Canopy Tour – www.karkloofcanopytour.co.za , horseplay – www.horseplay.co.za , walking, cycling, sailing, canoeing, wine tasting, candle dipping, ceramic painting and lots more. Midmar Resort and nature reserve – www.kznwildlife.com is only 15 minutes away as is Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve – www.wessa.org.za . For those who would like to just pamper themselves, there are many spas in the area and Midlands House of Healing is just up the road with Reiki, massage, hot stones and infra red treatments.
The battlefield area is also accessible for day trips or more extensive overnight stays. We can put you in touch with tour operators if wanted. Also day trips to the world famous Drakensberg are easily accomplished. If you are spending more than a couple of days on the area a picnic, walk or inspection of the cave art (or all three) is a must.
It has to be said though, that we find it hard to tear ourselves away from our beautiful little corner of South Africa in the Dargle.
There are many wedding venues in the area, 2 of which are within 10 minutes of Lemonwood and are, to my mind, the most beautiful in the Midlands – The Cairn of Old Kilgobbin www.oldkilgobbin.co.za and Corrie Lynn Farm Weddings www.corrielynn.co.za
